Frequently Asked Questions
What is a macaron?
A macaron, pronounced mak-ah-RON, is a gourmet French-style sandwich cookie made from finely ground almond flour, egg whites, and confectioners' sugar, filled with a variety of meringues, ganaches, jams, curds, and buttercreams. They have a delicately sweet flavor, slightly chewy texture, and crisp outer surface, known to be challenging even for the most skilled confectioners to master. Each batch is made to order by hand with only the finest ingredients.
Are macarons and macaroons the same thing?
No, they are very different! While the term "French macaroon" may be used to refer to a macaron in some regions, macaroons as known in the U.S. are dollop-shaped drop cookies with a cake-like consistency made from shredded coconut, and are not sold here.
Are your macarons gluten-free?
Yes! All macarons sold here are naturally gluten-free as they do not contain wheat, rye, barley, or other gluten-containing ingredients. Macarons by Evelyn are periodically tested for gluten content to ensure no contamination occurs. With this in mind, while every effort is made to prevent cross-contamination, macarons sold here are not prepared in a dedicated gluten-free kitchen. The MBE kitchen is not gluten-free certified.
Are your macarons vegan?
Macarons are not vegan because the shells are based from egg whites, and some fillings contain dairy. However, all macarons at this shop are vegetarian (meaning they do not contain gelatin).
Are macarons safe for those with other food allergies?
Macarons may not be safe for consumption for those with certain allergies, including tree nuts, peanuts, eggs, milk, soy, and food dye. See each macaron flavor's description for a detailed list of ingredients and allergens. Macarons by Evelyn is not liable for any harm that may occur as a result of consuming our products.
How long will my macarons stay fresh?
For optimal texture and flavor, macarons should be kept out of sunlight at room temperature and enjoyed within 5 days.
Can I refrigerate or freeze my macarons?
Absolutely! You can store your macarons in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or preserve them in the freezer for several months, however freezing them may result in difference in texture or flavor. Always thaw to room temperature before eating for the best taste and texture.
How do I place a large order for gifts, weddings, or special events?
Large orders of more than 6 dozen must be placed at least 2 weeks in advance. Please email me at Evelyn@MacaronsByEvelyn.com to discuss details about your special request!
Do you make custom color or flavor combinations on request?
Yes! Please email me at Evelyn@MacaronsByEvelyn.com to discuss details about your special request! Custom orders may require additional lead time and cost, depending on your needs.
If I order multiple flavors, are the flavors packaged separately or mixed within each box?
Flavors are packaged one flavor per box, unless otherwise specified. If you would like your selected flavors to be mixed as assortments, please specify in the order notes when checking out, or contact me directly to discuss.
Do you deliver?
I currently deliver within Montgomery County, IN for no additional cost. (If you would like delivery, select "Ship" in checkout.) I also have pickup locations at both Southmont High School and HHSB Operations Center.
Do you ship?
National shipping is available in the United States to the 48 mainland states & D.C. Orders usually ship within a week of purchase and take 1-3 business days to arrive once shipped.
How long after placing an order will I receive my macarons?
Processing times range from about 2–7 days for local delivery and pickup, and an additional 2–3 days for shipping, although these estimates may vary. I recommend placing any time-sensitive orders well in advance—orders may be placed even months ahead if you specify the needed-by date in "order notes" or "special instructions." Thank you for understanding my busy schedule!
